The Church of the Good Shepherd is located on the shores of Lake Tekapo, in the Tekapo village.

Also on the shores of Lake Tekapo, just along from the Church of the Good Shepherd, is the statue of the working dog. In the early days of European settlement, it was the working dog that allowed the wide open expanses of the Mackenzie to be farmed.

Air Safaris operate a modern fleet of fixed wing aircraft and are located at the Tekapo airport on outskirts of the village. Air Safaris offer 50 minute scenic flights over the spectacular Southern Alps, Mt Cook and the Westland National Park.

Lake Tekapo provides great fun on the water for friends and family who enjoy waterskiing, wakeboarding, etc.

Lake Tekapo is fed by three major river catchments, the Godley, Macaulay and Cass Valleys. Here the combined flows of the Godley and Macaulay Rivers flow into the head of Lake Tekapo.

Lake Tekapo has played host to one of New Zealand's most scenic mountain bike races, the Round Lake Tekapo MTB Pursuit. Around 90km of scenic pleasure and enduring hard work.

Lake Tekapo sports a purpose built kayak course in the riverbed of the Tekapo River. Controlled by the outflow of Lake Tekapo at the dam and then by control gates at the entry of the course further down the river, the grade of the course can be altered.

Located on the shores of Lake Tekapo, the Alpine Springs, Spa and Winter Park operate a series of hot pools that operate all seasons. During the winter months, an ice rink and snow tubing slope also operates from the facility.

Lake Tekapo is surrounded by numerous high country stations that graze the hardy merino breed of sheep. Here several sheep overlook Lake Tekapo from the surrounding mountains.

Mt Dobson and Roundhill Ski Areas are immediately local to Lake Tekapo and Ohau Ski Area is within an hour's drive away. With so many quality ski areas in the area, Lake Tekapo is a great location to base a skiing holiday.

Prior to the snows of winter arriving in the mountains of the Mackenzie, the merino sheep of the local high country sheep stations are brought down to the lowland paddocks for winter. The muster starts early in the morning as musterers and their dogs walk into the sun lit peaks of the valley.

At the end of the Autumn muster, musterers shepherd the sheep down the lowlands towards the "home blocks".

Mackenzie Alpine Horse Trekking operate horse treks during the warmer months of the year. Regular treks with durations from 2 hours through to all day are available. Multi-day treks from overnight to six days are available by arrangement.
